One of the biggest fears women tend to have about birth is tearing—the concern that the most tender parts of our bodies will tear while our babies are being born (in other words, omg, my v*lva ripped open).
And let's face it, this fear is totally understandable.
Our yonis are a sacred site—the locus of our sexuality, our identities, and our spiritual centre, in many ways.
And yet, perineal tearing during birth is a reality for many of us.
And a significant perineal tear—for obvious reasons—can have a profound impact on our initiation into motherhood, our experience postpartum, and how we feel about our bodies, our relationships, and our sexuality after birth.
But what most women don’t know, is that there IS a formula for maximizing the likelihood that you will emerge from the birth process with your tender tissues INTACT and INTEGRAL—tearing CAN, for the most part, be prevented—but not through peanut balls, special birthing positions, hot compresses, or perineal “massage.”
Not at all.
In fact, most of the advice out there within the obstetric realm and even in the so-called “natural” birth world when it comes to tearing is completely wrong and even counterproductive.
This is why I created INTEGRAL: The Ultimate Guide to NOT Tearing During Birth.
Birth does not have to be a struggle (it doesn’t even have to be painful!).
Birth is not designed to break us.
You too can have an easy, pleasurable birth, and a serene experience postpartum as you integrate the transformation of birth.
I’m Yolande Norris-Clark. I’m a freebirth pioneer, a traditional birth-witness, and a mother myself—I’ve given birth to 10 children of my own. I’ve been working in the birth-world for the past 24 years as a childbirth educator, a birth-related trauma coach, and co-creator and teacher of the Matribirth Midwifery Institute.
I am also the author of the bestselling book, PORTAL: The Art of Choosing Orgasmic, Pain-Free, Blissful Birth (and the creator of the life-changing course of the same name—join the waitlist for the next live PORTAL 2025, here).
I have dedicated my life to breaking collective spells about motherhood, and dismantling the myth that childbirth is an ordeal from which women need to be “delivered.”
On the contrary, what I know is that birth is actually designed to be bliss—it certainly doesn’t have to be a struggle (or even painful). It’s also true that for the most part, tearing *can* be prevented, using the specific roadmap that I delineate in INTEGRAL—a blueprint for not only creating the highest likelihood of maintaining your body’s integrity, resilience, and suppleness, but for summoning the reassurance to embrace the birth process without fear.
I also know what it is to inadvertently, unconsciously, create a birth experience that is painful and traumatic, even when we think we’re following the very best advice.
I myself was 20 years old when I gave birth to my first baby—it was a beautiful homebirth with a wonderful midwife.
I thought I had done everything “right” to prepare for as peaceful and easy an arrival for my baby as possible, and overall, I loved my birth.
But instead of serenely *breathing* my baby into the world, I ended up with a multi-day birth process. After 8 hours of eye-popping, white-knuckle pushing (while screaming at the top of my lungs), I sustained a very serious second-degree tear to my yoni that rocked my world.
Each time I went to the bathroom during the first four weeks postpartum, I *wept* from the excruciating pain of simply peeing, and the healing process was *brutal*. I was bruised and sore, and frankly, traumatized.
It was so painful that I was convinced my body would be wrecked forever.
I ended up going in to see an obstetrician about my mangled private parts. To my horror, she told me I would need reconstructive surgery to “fix” my broken body!
The short-version of the story is that I did heal over time, and I also developed a passion for birth and for supporting women in having a very different experience than I did.
Within INTEGRAL, I have put together EVERYTHING I know about tearing (and healing postpartum), to give you the recipe for optimizing your body’s integrity during birth and postpartum.
I created INTEGRAL just for you, because I know INTIMATELY how hard it can be to heal from a significant perineal tear, and I want to see more and more women all over the planet, experiencing birth as the magnificent, fun, delightful, and *incredibly* simple process that I know it can be.
What I share in INTEGRAL will guide you to developing the confidence to embrace the process of bringing your baby into the world without any concerns that your body might malfunction or be injured, and with a deep sense of connection with your instinctive knowing, providing a deep, insightful, and highly intimate breakdown of the deeper layers of how we can support the integrity of our intimate parts, our sexual selves, and our identities as women.
