Surrogacy & Reproductive Tech:

In this 2 hour pre-recorded Salon, we traverse the controversial, charged, *and* wildly important topic of Surrogacy & IVF from my own personal lens & philosophy (and the heaps of research and studies I’ve done of these subjects over the years).

Are you wanting a child of your own, and considering the possibility of using IVF technology, or hiring or sponsoring a gestational surrogate to carry a child for you?

Are you considering the possibility of becoming a surrogate in order to give the gift of family to another couple, or as a supplement to your own income?

Surrogacy, IVF, and assisted reproduction in general are massive topics in this day and age—especially as increasing numbers of women struggle with infertility, as more women are choosing to start their families later in life, and as the definition of “parenthood” and family itself has expanded.

On an individual level, the choice as to whether or not to engage with assisted reproductive technology—and what kinds of reproductive tech we engage with—can have a huge impact not only on our experience of pregnancy and birth, but on our bodies as we age, our family configurations, our lineage, and our spiritual development.

As a mother of nine children, I have (obviously) not struggled with infertility in my life, and I’m immensely grateful for that. Motherhood has been one of the most significant experiences of my life, and each of my experiences becoming pregnant and then giving birth has shaped all of whom I am.

But the politics of fertility, reproductive technology, and the surrogacy industry affects everyone, and has directly impacted my personal life in some surprising ways.

The reverberating political, social, and ethical ramifications of the surrogacy and assisted reproduction industries are manifold, and I believe there is a profound connection between the way that pregnancy and birth have been constructed in our Industrial Age, and the social impacts of the increasingly technocratic control of birth in all its facets.

Join me in this 2 hour pre-recorded Salon, as we traverse the controversial, charged, *and* wildly important topic of Surrogacy & IVF from my own personal lens & philosophy (and the heaps of research and studies I’ve done of these subjects over the years).

In this pre-recorded Salon, we'll cover topics and ideas such as:

  •  What is the agenda of commercial surrogacy?
  •  Why this has become so popular today?
  •  What if the woman consents to it and has no issue with it?
  •  What if a woman struggles with infertility and IVF/surrogacy are her only options?
  •  How can you be a feminist and not be on board with this?
  •  How does this relate to the transhumanism agenda and the evil in our world currently?
  •  What is the major cost and pain of surrogacy?
  •  How does surrogacy negatively affect our babies?
  •  How is this affecting us collectively?
  •  How is this grooming the next generation?
  •  Where does adoption fit into this?

We'll explore
distinctions between surrogacy within and outside of families, commercial and “unpaid” surrogacy, egg and sperm-donation, IVF, along with the politics, the programming, the nuances, and the cult-rituals that have constructed the normalization of the industry, not to mention ecto-genesis (artificial wombs—they’re almost here) and what freebirth has to do with it.

This is a heated topic today, but I will always *always* write about and talk about any issue that I feel merits discussion and analysis, especially one that has such profound ethical, moral, and human rights implications—and as always, I’m open to differing perspectives and debate.

This may be an intense and even a difficult conversation for many—especially those directly involved with surrogacy, but my focus is on industries, systems, institutions, and cultural mores. This will be an opportunity for everyone in attendance to interrogate your own beliefs, values, and perspectives.

Who is Yolande Norris-Clark?

Yo is the mother of nine babies (all of whom were born at home), and she’s worked in the world of birth for over twenty years as a birth witness and consultant. Yolande has spent her life almost entirely outside of the industrial medical realm, growing, birthing, raising her children, healing her own wounds and dis-eases, and offering guidance and witnessing to others who are on the journey of wild birth and self-healing.
